Took a few quick shots with my wife's camera. I am a total newbie at taking pics. more to come as I have time. Sorry there is no solid background to help the foliage stand out. Working on it.
These are simply the fruits on 113X F3 3 T1C4-4 right now. The plant itself is quite small.
Good question. Since these are the first I've grown of seeds from Dan
this one: 113x-f3-3-t1c5-4
stands for:
a seed of "113X F3 3", sown in Tray 1, Column 5, Row 4. It was an easy way to trace a seed from sow -> end/harvest.
I will likely rename things as I save seed (so this one might, for example become "113X F3 3 - SF1" or "Plant 1 from Sean Finkel grown from 113X F3 3" Seed from this would be "113X F4 3 - SF1" - at least, that's the current way I'm thinking about it.
Went ahead and plucked that one that was ripening. I likely could have let it go a bit longer. It weighed in at 37g. Taste was meaty, like a brandywine but did have some tart to it. Skin was a little thick, but near as thick as many of the available micros. Almost no seeds at all. This plant has a few others on it - none beefsteak shape, but overall close in size. Will look to those to harvest seeds.
They look good. Is that just dark coloring, or are they a bit ribbed? I haven't seen ribs on hearts. They look a little more elongated than the hearts I've had.
Put a yellow sticky at the top of the plant for the whiteflies.
T1C3-2
9" thick and bushy plant with carrot leaves - hard to see into the center. No fruit set yet, but seeing some swollen ovaries - so waiting to see what happens
T1C3-4
20" with 2 main stems with carrot leaves. Flower trusses all the way up. Good fruit set, and immature fruits are dark green with some hints of varigation. Too big for 1gal/6inch pot
T1C3-7
9-10" with 2 main stems and a 3rd smaller stem with carrot leaves.Multi-Flora-ish (barely ish). Long cherry-style trusses. Wide growth habit, needs support and good fruit set
T1C3-11
18" with 2 main stems with carrot leaves. Cherry-style trusses at the top and also somewhat bushy at top of plant. A bit large for a 1gal but could be done (that is not a 1gal in the pic)
T1C4-4
9" with 2 main stems and carrot leaves. Not many flowers, but was the first to fruit with a beefsteak from a megabloom. Normal fruits are round.
T1C4-7
18" with one main stem and carrot leaves. Suckers all the way up that mostly serve as new trusses, which are multi-branching and cherry-style. Average fruit set of smaller cherry fruits
T1C4-12
12-13" thick and bushy plant with carrot leaves. Has flower trusses all the way up the plant and average fruit set. Immature fruits are dark green with light varigations
T1C5-4
12" 2 main stems with carrot leaves. Cherry style trusses with larger fruit. Needs support
Did you grow out most of the seed I sent? As I look at the seed packet I sent, there wasn't very much seed - only 35-40 seeds. What percentage do you think you grew out? This helps me understand the distortions of expectations I end up with because of the approach I take to growing and culling.
